US DOT Regulations on Flight Delay Compensation

An avid air passenger knows it well that flight delays can happen anytime and for any reason. While some delays are unpredictable, even for the airlines, there are delays caused by the negligence of the airline at times. And these flight delays often lead to hardships like missed connections, unexpected overnight stays in the airport, cancellation of travel itinerary and many other inconveniences. Unlike European Union, there is no such regulation in the United States that legally obligate the airline to compensate passengers for flight delays. However, if the passenger has a confirmed reservation but they are denied boarding or they are bumped from the flight, the airline is obliged to pay flight delay compensation to the passenger.
