Ins and Outs of United Airlines Ticket Refund Policy

United Airlines is one of the top most air service providers in the world. Like other airlines, it also has its terms & conditions that regulates its refund and airline compensation policies. To make United Airlines’ cancellation and delay policies more intelligible to the common flyers, we have summarized different points as follows:
Refunds for Unused Flight Ticket

Under United Airlines’ 24-hour flexible booking policy, the passengers can avail a waiver of change or cancellation fees if they change or cancel the ticket within 24 hour of booking the ticket. However, this policy is valid only on ticket booked through www.united.com or United Reservations.

For tickets booked through travel agents or from any third party, the passengers can apply for refunds only if that particular fare is refundable. The airline may also apply a cancellation or change penalty depending on the rules of the fare purchased. In most cases, the fares are non-refundable and thus may not be eligible for voluntary refunds. Nevertheless, the value of the ticket can be applied towards future travel purchases; but, the passenger needs to pay the fare difference along with applicable administrative charges (if any).

It is also to be noted that the refund amount varies depending on several factors. For example, you have booked a multi-city journey where the ticket has both refundable and non-refundable fares; in such a case each both fares will be considered separately. For partially used tickets, the refund amount will be calculated at a prorated amount basis, depending on the fare rules and segments flown. Additional fees and surcharges (if applicable) collected while booking the ticket will be non-refundable.
