Severe weather delays several flights in and out of Clinton National

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Severe weather passing through Arkansas delayed Christmas travel for hundreds of people flying in and out of Clinton National Airport, on Wednesday. Lightning storms prevented several planes from landing at Little Rock’s airport, in addition to delays stemming from poor weather conditions at other US airports.
Most of the arrivals and departures delayed from LIT were delayed between 15 minutes and 1.5 hours. Only one flight was cancelled, but several connecting flights at other airports stranded some traveling from Little Rock at other airports around the country.
Three American Airlines flights had to circle Clinton National just after noon on Wednesday. Lightning on the ground had pilots taking extra precautions before attempting to land their planes.
Barbara Pitts drove through the torrential downpours and heavy winds on her trip from Heber Springs to Little Rock to pick up her daughter.
“When she called me that she was leaving Charlotte, I left Heber Springs to get here about the right time,” said Pitts.
