1. Buy Refundable Airfare: Non-refundable air tickets are cheaper, but it is always a good deal to buy refundable airfares. Travel plans can go unplanned at any moment and thus to stay prepared for the worst is the best measure. This rule is however applicable to tickets booked at least 7 days prior to the original departure date. Any airline operating within US or selling their tickets in US are bound to abide by this DOT regulation.

Along with many other taxes, airport tax also constitute a good portion of our flight fare. If you couldn’t fly for any reason and cancel your ticket before the flight departure, you become entitled to get the airport tax refund. While in US and European Union this rule is applicable, there are countries that may have other policies for tax refund.
