The aviation industry has formulated a new methodology of overbooking in order to fly pack. Flight overbooking solely means to selling more tickets that the actual flight capacity in order to recompense in case of absentees. But, this methodology has gained mixed responses from the passengers - for some it’s a good deal to gain a few extra bucks and for some it’s an unethical manner to fly pack. On the whole, it’s the aviation industry which is in profit. Prior to overbooking, flights used to fly with empty seats as emergencies don’t knock with notice. However, the new policies introduced by the United States’ Department of Transportation (DOT) requires the airlines to ask people who aren't in a hurry to give up their seats voluntarily in exchange for compensation, which is sometimes more than the actual amount they spent in buying the ticket. And those who are bumped against their will can now apply for compensation from the airline. But, involuntary bumping isn’t a good option as many a times passengers have to pace with emergencies and are put down because of the aviation’s bumping tool.
